Mr Charles Gerhardt, B.Sc. (º1952)
- Health Planning, Administration and Management Advisor. Expert in strategic, business and operational planning, institutional development, health management and administration; monitoring and evaluation of health sector programs, including Project Cycle Management.
- Over the last 25 years, Charles Gerhardt has worked as senior manager, management consultant and trainer for a large number of government organisations, development agencies, programmes and project in numerous low and middle income countries in Africa, Asia and the Middle-East.
- In his capacity as representative of the Netherlands Ministry for International Co-operation in Cameroon and Mali, Charles Gerhardt has gained substantial experience in policy development, programming, project planning and management of primary health care projects.
- From 1990 to 1995 at the Royal Tropical Institute (KIT), he was involved in the design and overall supervision of international health (planning, training, and research) projects.
- As Program Manager of the EC funded Integrated Health Program in Namibia from 1995 to 1999, he was assisting senior management of the Ministry of Health in the implementation of a national health sector reform programme.
- In addition to his responsibilities as Director of the Training Department and the Head of the Programme Management Support Unit at the KIT (from 1998 to 2001), he has been providing short-term management support services to senior policy makers and executives working within health sector in different countries;
- From 2004 to 2005 he has worked as the Health & Population Programme Manager at the European Delegation in Cairo, Egypt. In this capacity he also co- chaired the Donor Assistance Group on Health & Population.
- In early 2006, he was interim business manager of the Tuberculosis Coalition for Technical Assistance Programme, an USAID funded programme implemented through a network of 8 specialised knowledge centres (including WHO, CDC, MsH, WHO, the Netherlands TB Foundation and JATA) in over 25 countries. He combined this position with short-term consultancy and training work.
- Mr. Charles Gerhardt has joined HERA in 2006.
- Long-term field experience in Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Mali, Namibia and Egypt. Short-term experience in West Africa (mainly Benin, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Mali, Niger and Senegal), Eastern Africa (Zambia, Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda), Southern Africa (mainly Zimbabwe, Namibia and South Africa), Arab world (mainly Egypt, Yemen, Syria), Asia (Indonesia, Mongolia, Japan, Vietnam), and Central America (Surinam, Haiti and Jamaica).
